Creating a T-Shirt Throw Pillow
Re-purposing garments is my favorite sewing activity. I love rearranging items and turning them into something completely different. It’s a sure bet that you have as many old t-shirt as I do, right?
Well, somehow along the way, I developed a habit of collecting college t-shirts. After years of washing and drying, the t-shirts become shrunken, faded and almost unwearable. That’s how this particular sewing project came about.
A few months ago I began redesigning my old, worn t-shirts into throw pillows. It was a cute activity that my kids enjoyed watching me do because as they are getting older, their interest in various colleges is growing. This is a very quick and easy project for a beginner sewer that should only take about an hour to complete.
I use pillow inserts from Wal-Mart like the one pictured below. They come in various sizes from 12 x 12 to as large as 24 x 24. My choice size is 18 x 18. This is the prefect size to display on a bed or couch. There are some awesome YouTube sew alongs for this project. I’ll link to one of them here. This t-shirt throw pillow is a great gift for a college student or a graduating senior. Happy sewing, friends!
